Sephiria Greatsword Guide - Special Attack Builds and Every Evolution (1.0.30)
Sephiria greatsword guide: every Tier 2 to Tier 3 evolution, the special-attack route (Hypersensitivity, Absolute Ring) and the beginner Creaking Spine line.
Patch check 2026-08-27 — reviewed against 1.0.30: nothing in 1.0.26–1.0.30 touches the greatsword family. Evolution recipes and effects below are current.
The greatsword is Sephiria’s heaviest-hitting melee family — and its identity is the special attack. While the katana wins through crit double-dips and the dagger through freeze control, greatsword routes can turn the Special button into the whole build. It’s one of the two S-tier families in the 1.0 meta, with the most forgiving beginner route in the game.
Why the greatsword is the special-attack weapon
Two pieces make the special-attack build work, and both are on this page:
- The Hypersensitivity line. Hypersensitivity gives +20% Special ATK DMG and 50% faster Special ATK charging. Its Tier 3s stack the special attack to absurd heights: Loving Gaze (+100% Special ATK crit chance), Negligence (special attacks charge instantly), and Black Iron Halberd (bigger range, +50% DMG on the other edge’s hit).
- The Absolute Ring artifact. It grants up to +30% Special ATK Range and evolves after killing 40 enemies with the Special Attack — the named piece behind the tier list’s “special button is the whole build” summary. The community’s most-liked greatsword build (Creaking Spine) pairs it with Amethyst and Rock Elephant.

All names and effects below are community-compiled from Kean’s Sephiria Compendium (cross-checked against the game), current as of 1.0.30:

Naming note on the beginner line: the game’s display path for the community’s favorite defensive route is Steel Greatsword → Bone Mechanism Sword → Creaking Spine (see the Creaking Spine build page). Kean’s sheet lists the same Reassemble ability under the Tier 2 name Bone Gearblade — treat them as the same line.
Which route should you play?
- Special-attack monster (proven S-tier): Hypersensitivity → Loving Gaze or Negligence, stacked with the Absolute Ring artifact — this is the route the tier list calls out as the family’s ceiling. High skill ceiling, but the numbers are absurd.
- Beginner defense (most forgiving): Bone Gearblade → Creaking Spine — Reassemble turns your swings into slow, safe, scaling hits; the Creaking Spine build page runs it with Will/Patience 20 and the Valet Miracle. The lowest legendary-weapon dependence of any endgame route.
- Elemental on-hit: Frostbound Greatsword / The Emberforged / Lightning “E2G” keep the classic heavy-swing loop and add an element — simplest to pilot, each with a clear Tier 3 capstone (Eternal Frost, Solis Cineris, E3G’s Storm Cloud engine).
- Wound/Chaos nuker: Crimson Thorn → The Inquisitor converts the family into a debuff detonator — niche, but the only route that turns the greatsword’s weight into a screen-wide Chaos burst.
Sword & Shield: the sister family
Sword & Shield is its own Tier 1 family (not a greatsword branch) and the pick widely recommended as the strongest true beginner weapon — it now has a dedicated page with all 9 Tier 2 → 19 Tier 3 evolutions: Sword & Shield weapon guide. Three routes to know:
- Unity of Offense and Defense → Indomitable — the block-first line: Normal ATK guards 90° in front, then +33% Normal ATK DMG (Cleave off). The safe lane.
- Protection of the Fuzz → Frozen Fury — block econ into damage: successful blocks cut MP costs, and Perfect Guard gives +20% All DMG for 14s.
- Tiny Destruction → Grip of Fear — the offense-first shield: +40% Special ATK DMG scaling into a Rising Dread stack dump (+30% Special ATK DMG per stack).
For how the whole family ranks against the other five weapons, see the weapon tier list — the greatsword sits in S-tier as the special-attack pick.
