Sephiria Sword and Shield Guide - Block Economy and Every Evolution (1.0.30)

Sephiria Sword & Shield guide: block-economy routes, Perfect Guard windows, four family-exclusive artifacts, and all 9 Tier 2 → 19 Tier 3 evolutions.

8/28/2026 1.0.30 Last updated: 8/28/2026 6 min read

Patch check 2026-08-28 — reviewed against 1.0.30: nothing in 1.0.26–1.0.30 touches the Sword & Shield family. Evolution recipes and effects below are current.

Sword & Shield is Sephiria’s defensive anchor: every member guards as well as swings, and half the family’s Tier 3 upgrades convert blocking itself into damage. It’s the pick the community most consistently recommends for a first clear — the weapon that lets you make mistakes and still finish the floor.

Why the shield carries runs

Two things make this family the beginner standard:

  • Block economy. Guard stops frontal damage while Cleave answers groups, and the family’s upgrades lean into it: Perfect Guard can grant +20% All DMG, successful blocks can reflect 300–400% of incoming damage, and Shield Bash scales directly off DEF. A block-first run still deals damage — the block is the damage.
  • Four exclusive artifacts. No other weapon family has more artifact support locked to it: Radiating Charm (block grants Physical DMG), Riposte Blade Fragment (block performs a counter up to 550% Physical DMG), Artificial Fairy, Iphiel (blocking regenerates MP), and the Legendary Shieldmate (up to −100% Special ATK MP cost plus Weapon DMG). If one appears in a shop, it’s build-defining.

All names and effects below are community-compiled from Kean’s Sephiria Compendium (cross-checked against the game), current as of 1.0.30:

Upgrade-card gallery: the thumbnails at the bottom of this page include every Sword & Shield upgrade tooltip card from Paddy’s Steam Community guide “Weapons and Miracles”, plus a Perfect Guard frame from the official 1.0 trailer. The cards are from an older build (0.7.x) — use them to recognize nodes at a glance, not as current stat evidence. The table below is the 1.0.30 reference.

Sourcing note: this family is listed in Kean’s Compendium as its own Tier 1 base (“Sword and Shield”, Weighted Activation Probability 100%) — the game’s official English text also uses “Standard Sword and Shield” for the base. Several Tier 3 upgrades (Glacial Blade, Blizzard’s Eve, Ballista Sword, Superconductor, Solis Missio) assume or interact with artifacts — Scabbard of Exorcism, Blizzard Hammer, Mini Ballista, Storm Clouds and Solar Blades respectively — making this the most artifact-coupled weapon family in the game.

Which route should you play?

  • Safe lane (the beginner pick): Unity of Offense and Defense → Indomitable — Normal ATK guards 90° in front, then +33% Normal ATK DMG trades away Cleave. Simple, forgiving, still respectable damage.
  • Block economy: Protection of the Fuzz → Frozen Fury / Starlight / Stone Sword — the whole trio converts blocking into offense: +20% All DMG windows off Perfect Guard, 300–400% reflect, or a DEF-scaling Shield Bash. Pair with the exclusive artifacts above.
  • Special-attack engine: Tiny Destruction → Grip of Fear — stack Rising Dread, then dump it into one +200% range Special ATK. The family’s ceiling route.
  • Elemental conversion: Magic Wand → Wings of Lightning / Breath of Ice / Gaze of Flames — the missile trio converts to your element of choice, like the staff’s elemental lines.
  • Artifact conductor: Frost Shard / Conductor / Incendium — Tier 2s that hand the run to Frost Relic, Storm Cloud or Solar Blade artifacts; high ceiling, high artifact dependence.

For how the family ranks against the other five weapons, see the weapon tier list — Sword & Shield sits in A-tier as the beginner anchor, and its cousin the greatsword is the S-tier special-attack pick.
